The fundamental purpose of this course is to formalize and extend the science that students learned in the middle grades.
The curriculum will deepen and extend understanding of key chemical principles and processes. Students will explore a variety of topics, including the properties and behavior of matter, atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonding, stoichiometry, the mole concept, kinetics and equilibrium, acids and bases, redox reactions, and nuclear chemistry. Through these topics, students will contrast various types of reactions, analyze chemical equations, and understand real-world applications of chemical concepts.
All students will take the Chemistry Regents exam in June. Successful passing of the New York State Chemistry Regents in June satisfies part of the minimum science requirement for graduation.
